Description: - Belarus born, Russian raised, classically trained and mentored Mage and devotee to the Mysterium. Harry conducts his life intimately by the 4 Protocols of the Mysterium, and as such has a very set and defined manner - even he if disagrees with it. He seeks truth, knowledge and understanding in all things, and his dearest wish is to unlock the secrets of Atlantean script and language.

  • High Speech (1): The eldritch tongue of old Atlantis, by spending an action in chanting, the use of High Speech adds +2 to the dice pool for the spell.
  • Gesture Lore (1): ~ Pranyama; Harry's knowledge of Runes and Mundra necessary to all casting and his formal training, have allowed him insight into different methods of casting. The Pranyama, a breathing method, allows him channel and cast an rote spell he knows without the need to move or speak, simply breath. Such a breathing technique however does stop the use of High Speech while he employs the method.
  • Glyph Lore (1): ~ Vulgar; Harry is capable and maybe to understand and scribe Atleantean glyphs in the more root and primordial form of High Speech. While unrefined, it forms the root of most other types of High Speech.
  • Mystery initiate (4): Harry has started the long road of initiation into the Mysterium, he has learned some one the hardest but most fundamental of the mysteries, granting him some mechanical boons. By performing a blood sacrifice, in which a symbolic animal is slaughter, he may return onto himself an additional point of mana. At the 1st dot of initiation the Mage adds +1 dice to any ritual casting which he conducts or is part of. With the 2nd dot, he may add his status with the mysterium to all social rolls with other members of the mysterium. At the 3rd dot, the mage is treated as if they had the Eidetic memory merit. At the 4th dot, the mage is treated as if he was always using his dedicated paradox mitigation tool in his spells)
  • Extemporaneous affinity (5): Harry's command of High Speech, in relation to his command of the fundamental aspects of Atleantean linguistic structures and their underlying forms has result in his ability to handle magic with more control. He gains +3 to the dice pool of any improvised spell.


  • "Blade of the Justiyrke" - Artefact (8): Longsword by nature (Dam: 3L, Size: 2, Dur:5), these artefacts have been crafted in order to bring justice and order to the streets of Chicago, be they a mere symbol or a tool of the badass enforcers of wizardly law. The blade is imbued with several magical effects, namely; "Body Mastery" (Rapidly increases healing time, allowing lethal damage to be healed in 12 hours and Agg in 36. Further, those in possession of the blade will find that, if their possession of the blade is contentious, the wielder can expect to add an additional 75 years to what would otherwise be their normal life span), "Puissant skill" - Limited to Weaponry (The wielder of the blade treats all uses of his weaponry skill as a rote action) and "Girding the champions faith" (Add +2 to total amour, and all Agg damage taken is downgraded to lethal)

  • Escape Hatch ~ (3) ~ Based on the "Portal" spell, this rote makes travelling much easier on Harry
  • Powerful Recollection ~ (2) ~ Based on "Willful process" spell, this rote turns mental skills into rote skills
  • Revelation of the unseen thread ~ (1) ~ Based on the "Correspondence" spell, this allows the mage to see the connections between people, places and things, in a very powerful way.

Esperacchius has forged his soul in the way of the Cryptologos, and has become to unlock their powers.

  • Way with Words: The mage may ignore the penalties normally imposed while using High Speech, but must however still speak it aloud. Further, the mage may forgo the standard +2 of regular high speech in an effort to gain higher use. He may instead make a 10-again dice of Wits (+ dedicated skills, in this case Philologically base Occult), with each success granting a +1 to the spell pool



  • Disorienting: The landscape around the mage seems to spin, causing vertigo and nausea in onlookers. Even on steady ground, witnesses can’t seem to find their footing and might stumble or reach out for handholds. Depth perception and spatial relations suffer, and, with powerful magic, witnesses might lose their senses of direction for the rest of the day.


  • Vow of Precision; This dedication tests the mage’s ability to be truthful and accurate. The mage is forbidden to lie, either by commission or omission — that is, everything she says must be either objectively true or clearly stated as opinion. If shown a plank of wood painted black, the mage can state that the wood is black only on the side that she can see. Of course, since the mage is probably capable of “seeing” both sides at once via Space magic, she might be able to say that both sides are black and still be correct. This likewise extends to others’ states of mind. The mage cannot guess what another is feeling, but can use magic to verify a supposition before speaking. The vow of precision does not necessarily require the mage to correct others when they make erroneous or unsubstantiated statements, but some do anyway. Anyone repeating a rumor or urban legend is challenged to offer support, and if the speaker cannot do so the mage gently (or not so gently) suggests that the speaker choose his words more carefully. Mages under the vow of precision are somewhat trying to be around, but they are also meticulous and calculating in extremis, and this makes them valuable allies


  • Mind: Destroying notes or written lessons that the mage has already memorized and internalized to the point that the notes are no longer required. On the other end of the spectrum, a mage can use the Mind 2 “Memory Hole” spell (see Mage: The Awakening, p. 208) to sacrifice a learned fact or secret in preparation for lengthier rituals. If the secret has actual or personal significance, then surrendering it is always worth +1. Destroying a thought that cannot possibly be retrieved (i.e., it exists nowhere except the mage’s mind at the time of the sacrifice) merits a +3 bonus, but this practice is considered blasphemous and antithetical to everything the Mysterium stands for.
  • Prime: Anything of notable temporal value may suffice for this Arcanum, demonstrating that nothing is so valuable as pure truth. Taken to greater extremes, a sacrifice of tass with the Prime 3 “Dissolve Tass” spell (see Mage: The Awakening, p. 225) can net a +1 bonus, provided the sacrifice achieves nothing else besides depriving the mage of tass he already owned and could have put to more immediately productive use.
  • Space: As centralized convergences of lore, libraries, churches and other archives anchor their secrets to fixed locality. A bit of mortar from such a structure’s wall or part of a bookshelf can prove useful, with a +1 granted if the object in question borders on irreplaceable or especially antique.


Wisdom: (6) ~ Harry has conducted acts of hubris in his search to discover the secrets of Atlantean linguistics, both his search for knowledge and his will to join the mysteries have resulted in him having lower wisdom but greater knowledge.

Dedicated Path tools:

  • "The Black staff"; is a cane of fitting size. The Black staff has a pure brass core wrapped and decorated with fine blackened leather. The handle/grip of the piece is craved from ivory and looks rather stylish. The black leather which conceals the brass core is covered with small engravings. While nigh-invisible unless caught in the right light, engraved down the length of one side is the formula for distance, and on another has a handful of simple riddles. This item reduces all paradox dice pools by 1.

Dedicated Arcane tools:

  • "Innsmouth's Journal": The journal in which Innsmouth reports the facts, evidence and the eventual conclusions of all the mysteries and investigations he is involved in while earning his keep. The journal holds some very personal thoughts and feelings on certain issues, as expressed by either himself or clients (+1 to Mind spells)
  • "The plotter": Made from ornate glass and polished brass, this 3inch Sextant is not merely useful, but is rather aesthetically pleasing. Craved with the co-ordinates of some of Harry's most beloved travel spots around the globe, the sextant never leaves his grasp for very long. (+1 to Space spells)
  • "Refinement stone": Formally owned by Auntie Horowitz, this piece of pure crystal sits in the middle of a silver pendant worn around the neck. (+1 to Prime spells)

Soul Stone:
Though an act of hubris, Harry has forged a piece of his own soul into an artefact from which he draws power. While dangerous, Harry protects this stone well, and its existence is a well kept secret. This stone however is not intended for a demesne, as Harry knows full well the potential which can be harvested from active use of ones own soul.

"A simple silver pocket watch": Connected via a metal chain to the inside pocket of his jacket, Harry keeps a small non-functioning pocket watch in his possession. This pocket-watch, unassuming in both style and make, is actually the retainer of a shard of his soul. While in his grasp (or at least within 20ft of him), this soul fragment enables Harry to make better use of his potential. It confers the following powers and abilities;

  • Any persistent magical effect the caster wishes to place upon his soul stone have their duration increased by two-steps in their duration scale. Making the average "scene" last around 12hours and any basic "prolonged" last 2 days.
  • Any spells from the ruling arcana (Mind/Space) of the soul in question, add +1 to any dice pools
  • All paradox the mage would induce has the roll reduced by 1 die.
  • Once per day, at the cost of 1 willpower, the mage may make any vulgar spell he wishes to cast covert

The watch is unsupported in its attempts to look common place, when not in direct use, Harry's soul-watch simply isn't 'there' but rather contained within a pocket dimension which it co-habitats with an identical but mundane watch (as per the Double shape spell), in addition to this it is imbued with a Mask of normality, to ward off any interested sleepers.


  • "The Black staff" (As a non-sword cane, the Blackstaff functions has a club, however, due to its increased weight it does 3B instead of 2B. The Black Staff is an object of Size:2)

"Thick leather trench-coat", Harry often wears his long leather dusters jacket, conferring an amour value of: (1/0). However, when Harry has the presence of mind to defend himself magically, his amour value increases to (4/3)

Mr. Harry Boris Horowitz-Blackstaff is a native Belarusian, born in Minsk. While his parents possessed no magical ability, his maternal uncle, Isaac Horowitz, was indeed a powerful mage of the Mastigos and spotted the boys potential as soon as it manifested. Convincing the boys parents to let him move to St.Petersburg, Isaac's home and seat of power, Isaac had Harry inducted into the "Petrograd Athenaeum" ( as he was a deputy curator) upon his awakening and began his formal training.

Awakening at just 15, he received a formal and school-like education from his uncle, while also learning of the basics of magic, ways to control his power, and myths, legends and facts of Atlantis and the fallen world. Seeing as he lived in the centre of Mysterium Power within Russia, and being educated by a deputy curator, it was of course only natural that Harry began an inducted member of The Mysterium was well - obtaining the rank of Acquisitor upon the completion of his formal training. To Harry, the ways and protocols of the Mysterium are everything. He acts in accordance to the four Protocols in both the spirit and the letter, and tries to never break away from them.

A true magus never lies to her colleagues about the nature and properties of secret knowledge. She may refuse to speak about a subject in whole or part, but must never mislead one of the Awakened. The chela (apprentice) owes his guru (master) the full flower of Buddhi (Awakening). Even after he grows into his wisdom, he owes his guru lifelong homage. A guru must teach his chela wisely and fairly, imparting all necessary knowledge of Sat (truth) and Siddhi (magical knowledge). He may never allow the chela to live in dishonor or destitution Magi must share secrets of equal value. The value of a secret depends equally upon its absolute power, rarity and the value ascribed to it by its recipient. The participants’ satisfaction is not enough to justify an unequal exchange What are the qualities of a guru? He knows the ways of individual siddha (magical workings) and devotes himself to the pure dharmakaya (Corpus Mysteriorum). His wisdom shines in ancient formulae and spontaneous miracles
